Cole had his third swim meet last Saturday. They swam at the city pool in Wentzville which was a bit different than the other pools. It was a 50 yard or meet (not sure which one) pool. There was a rope with noodles around it that was dropped when it was time for the 25 yard events and adults got in the pool at the half way point. When the kids touched the noodle, the adults raised a flag to signal to the timers to stop their watches. They also did this for the relays so the kids new when the next one to go. It was a bit weird but worked out okay.
Cole did not get upset or hesitant at any of his races this time. I think he may have been a bit nervous for his first event (which Matt went with him for) but was fine after that. I accompanied him to the bull pen for the other three events.
His free relay ended up coming in 6th place but luckly 6th place gets a ribbon (a pink one). He came in 7th for his 25 backstroke swimming a time of 1:02:72 (which was 12 seconds slower than his best time). He kept looking back to see if he was done yet which he never does. I think he was trying to get use to the fact that the pool was different than the other ones he swims in. His medley relay ended up getting 4th place (which is a yellow ribbon).
His last race was the 25 yard free style. When he got up to the block he told me he wanted to swim back stroke since free style meant you could do that. I said I would like him to swim free style but he could do what he wanted. So, he ended up swimming back stroke and got 3rd place in his heat. He ended up finishing 6th overall and got a pink ribbon. His time was 51:00. He can actually swim back stroke faster than his free style (his fastest time is 54 seconds for free style).
