We started off leaving on Friday, July 16 and headed to Fort Lauderdale. On our flight was Granny, Kerry, Jacob and the four of us. Both boys did really well on the flight! I was pleased that we were only having one flight and it would be just under 3 hours. We brought Luke's car seat with us for him to sit on the plane since he had his own ticket. It worked wonderful! Otherwise I think it would have been very difficult to keep him in one spot.
We would be meeting Aunt Lucy, Uncle George, GA, Ben, and David shortly after getting to our hotel. We were spending the night in Fort Lauderdale and then would board the cruise on Saturday. My Dad, Sue, Jessi, Stephanie and Tony would all be joining us but not until later that evening. Then we would meet the last of the family members, Uncle Michael, Aunt Trish, Steven and Alexis, on the ship.
The first adventure happened at the hotel. Around 3am the fire alarm went off. It woke Matthew and I up both wandering what that noise was. We were surprised that it was not waking up the boys. We tried to call the front desk to see if it was just a false alarm or we should exit but were not able to get a hold of anyone. So, we decided to grab the boys and exit the hotel. We were on the fourth floor, so down we went. We exited at the back of the hotel and then made our way to the front to figure out what was going on. Some of my famly members were outside but non of my siblings or my Dad. We were able to go back in shortly and found out later that it was smoke from a vending machine that set off the alarms. No fire trucks showed up so I guess it wasn't anything serious.
On Saturday morning we all had breakfast together and around noon headed to the cruise ship. Most of us had been on a cruise before but it had been about 5 years since Matthew and I had been on a cruise. We were a bit anxious to see how it would be with two children!
