Here are the boys in the lobby of Granny's building ready to leave for the airport to San Diego. We had a very smooth flight out there. It was about a four hour plane ride and the boys did pretty good on it.
We arrived in San Diego around 5pm on the last night of Hanukkah. Just in time to celebrate with everyone! Aunt Lucy had the house nicely decorated with a huge number of Menorahs. I think Cole counted about 23 and I'm pretty sure he missed a few.
We planned two big outtings for our second trip to San Diego which was the perfect amount. On the first day there I went to lunch and shopping with Aunt Lucy while the boys went to a playground with Uncle George. Lucky them the ice cream truck showed up so they got to have ice cream in December.
Our first big adventure took us back to Sea World. We went last March and the boys really enjoyed it so we decided to go back again. We explored some of the areas we didn't get to the last time - the penguins, shark experience and turtles. We also saw the Buluga whales and the dolphin show. Cole chose to play longer at the Seaseme playground rather than see the Shamu show, which was probably a good idea since we would have waited in a long line. It was super crowded on the day we went so the boys didn't get to play as much as last time but they still enjoyed it.
On day three of our trip Matt and I took the boys to the beach. I'm not the biggest fan of the beach because of the messy clean up and this time it was super messy because there was no where to rinse the boys off. The boys had a great time running around, playing in the sand, putting their feet in the water. Lots of laughs being had on this trip. After the beach we had some ice cream which was one of my favorite parts of this excursion, that and the pure joy coming from my boys.
On day four it was time to check out the San Diego Zoo. Aunt Lucy had suggested we rent a double stroller and boy are we glad we listened to her. Massive hills at this zoo and there was no way we would have been able to carry the boys because of the hills. We got to see all kinds of great animals and loved seeing the Polar Bears and Pandas. Two animals we don't have at the St. Louis Zoo.
Both boys passed out when we arrived home from the Zoo. Aunt Lucy has two dogs, Buffy and Sophie, and here is one of them who decided to snuggle up to Luke while he was sleeping.
The hot tub is a big hit with Cole. He went in it twice this trip. He loves being in there. Matt and I joined him on the first night and then just Matt on the second night. Luke decided he wanted to go on the second night (he was actually sleeping during our first dip). I wasn't sure he'd like it and boy was I right. I think he put in a foot and decided that was far enough. He kept saying he needed a "cold hot tub."
We celebrated New Year's Eve with Granny, Aunt Lucy and Uncle George. We had Smash Burger for dinner - super good burgers and fries! They have two resturants in St. Louis and I'm looking forward to having it again.
We got up super early on the morning of the first so we could catch a 7:30am flight back to St. Louis. It was foggy on our way to the airport (about a 30 minute drive) so we figured our plane would be delayed. We never imagined it would be delayed by four hours. We arrived at the airport around 6am so we ended up spending about five hours in the airport before getting to board. Plenty of time to have breakfast and lunch from the one resturant in the terminal we were in. Luckly we had plenty of electronic devices with us so the boys were kept busy and well behaved.
Here they are waiting to check in for our flight home - little did we know we'd be at the airport for so long!
We had an amazing trip and arrived home safe and sound, only four hours late but that's okay.
