Luke's 4 Year "Stats"

Luke has his four year check up on Monday.  They did a small hearing test which went well and had his blood pressure checked for the first time - all good results.  When we got back to the check up room the nurse had Luke put on a paper gown.  This was the first time we'd been given a gown to put on.  I guess it is to cover up in case you don't want to hang out in your underwear.  Cole has never even been given a gown to wear.  I thought it was funny and Luke looked so cute so I had to take a picture!

 

 

Here are his "stats" for his four year check up:

-Weight: 41 1/2 pounds (87%)

-Height: 41 inches (67%)

 

Last year at Luke's three year appointment he 36 pounds and was 38.25 inches tall.  So, he's gained five and a half pounds in the past year and has grown almost three inches. 

 

We feel like Luke has really slimmed down over the past year.  We just switched his clothes over from 4T to size 4 as shirts and pants were starting to look a bit small.  Luke has really thrived at preschool since joining his new class up at Warren Elementary in August.  His teacher, Mrs. Bishop, sent us an update on his progress in her classroom earlier this month saying:

 

"He went from knowing 2 capital letters in the fall to 11 now! He also has grown in his patterning. He was not able to do any in the fall and now he can do a simple pattern ABAB!"

 

We've also noticed that Luke is doing much better at writing his name at the school year progresses.  He does really well with his L and U and his E has gotten better.  He tends to forget the K but I'm sure as the rest of the year goes on he will get it down.

 

Luke is such a happy little guy.  Of course he has some melt downs every know and then, several over Christmas break when he didn't get a good nap.  When Luke gets in trouble these days he tends to run and hide in the dining room.  He can be very sensitive these days.  One of my favorite things about Luke is when he looks at me and says, "Mom, you're cute."  He does this quite a bit on some days as he knows it will illicit a large smile across my face.  For Matt he will tell him that he's awesome.  If I try to tell Luke that he's cute he says, "No, I'm awesome."  Luke will sometimes take back his "you're cute" or "you're awesome" comment if you do something to upset him.  He'll tell me, "Mom, you're not cute."  I find his way of telling me he's upset/mad at me to be cute :)

 

At age four Luke does really well during the day with going to the bathroom.  He rarely has an accident these days although we've had many times in recent months where he waits to the last minute and can't quite make it to the toilet and we end up with a wet floor in the bathroom!  He's also very self sufficient with going to the bathroom and usually requires little to no assistance from us.  He usually even wipes his own bottom (most of the time)!  Luke still wears a pull up at night and we are working on getting him out of pull ups and into underwear at night.  He's getting better at staying dry but I think we've still got a little ways to go.

 

Luke's favorite food these days is mac n cheese.  Anytime we can't decide what to make for dinner he suggests mac n cheese.  He's a pretty picky eater but has started to try more things at dinner adding mini meat loafs and tacos to the list of items he will eat.  Last night at dinner he was adventurous and tried tomatoes and lettuce as he thought they looked good.  Luke's drink of choice is milk!!  Anytime we go out to eat he chooses milk and has it at every meal.  I'm so glad that we've got such a great milk drinker on our hands! 

 

Luke seems to be very excited about his soon-to-be baby sister and becoming a big brother!  For the past several months he has been telling everyone that when he's four baby Ella will be here.  Well, Luke's now four and so we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of his baby sister and his new status as a big brother.  We think he's going to do great!  He's already assigned jobs for him and his brother.  Luke will be the diaper helper and Cole will be the feeding helper. 

 

We love Luke so much and can't wait to see what the next year brings for our sweet boy!
