Through e-mails several of the Moms in his class and I planned the party. The fall party seemed to go on forever where as the winter party went by so fast. We didn't get to several of the things we had planned.
The first thing for the party was to make these adorable Christmas tree crafts (still getting use to being able to do this type of stuff at public school). One of the Moms put together the structure (made out of popsicle sticks) and attached a star that she glittered to the top. The kids then got to color their tree and decorate it with ornaments.
After snacks and finishing up the trees we played a "Fill the Stocking" relay game. I need to remember that things that sound good don't always work out well with a room full of kindergartners. It was a bit hectic as we got the kids in their groups, explained the directions and then played the game. The kids were suppose to use a plastic spoon and put a piece of candy on it to fill the stocking. The group that filled the stocking (we got small ones) first is the winner. Was a bit crazy but I think the kids liked it.
Next, was the book exchange we planned. We asked each kid to bring a wrapped gender neutral book to the party. The original plan was to read a story in which the kids passed the book to their right or left when the word was read. Well, we got through one passing and it was a disaster! So, we switched to playing music and when it stops you get the book in your hands. Even that was a bit hectic but it all worked out. Cole ended up with a Transformer book (good thing it ended up with him and not one of the girls).
